The Ring has most often been compared to a drug, for reasons stated below. However, I have thought about it and have also come up with love at first sight. Now nobody knows what Tolien truly wanted the Ring to symbolize (and it is certain that it is a symbol). However, we can still compare.
The Ring is a drug: This one is what I would go with. YWhen you are first introduced to it, you feel is the greatest thing in the world. You start to feel better than you ever have and use it as much as possible in order to feel better. However, after using it long enough, you start to deteriorate and you realize that this is doing more harm than it did good. You would like to stop using it, but you find that you just can't separate yourself from it, and when you do try to stop, it keeps calling to you until you are eventually tempted to start using it again.
Love at first sight: You find that this is the one that has everything about it that you love. You start doing everything with it, and for awhile everything is going great. However, as time goes on you realize that things just weren't meant to be, and you shouldn't have fallen in love with somebody who isn't compatible with you. However, you still imagine this person/thing as the love that you first saw at the beginning, and thus cannot let it end.
I'm quite proud of my analogy, by the way. What do you guys think?
| The Wheel of Time turns and ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend, legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave its birth comes again.
One Ring to rule them al, One Ring to find them One Ring to bring them all and in the darness bind them. |
