One of the biggest complaints about the Wheel of Time series is the horrible characterization of the female characters. Perhaps people like Tolkien were just as bad, but we won't know because they don't use females nearly as much as Jordan does. So take your pick as to which female character makes you want to bang the book against your head and throw it out the window.
1. Egwene, the charming village girl who finds every way possible to get herself captured, then blames everybody else for it.
2. Elayne, the oh-so-understanding princess who has to get it her way or the highway, and can't understand why some people don't get it.
3. Nynaeve, whose intelliggent mind always gets everybody into some sort of trouble, and should be bald now with all the hair pulling.
4. Aviendha, the mighty warrior who is so nieve about everything that it's only due to RJ's lack of ability to kill main characters that keeps her alive.
5. Another unfortunate soul.
Of course, I will give RJ credit for creating two great characters in Moiraine and Min.
| The Wheel of Time turns and ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend, legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave its birth comes again.
One Ring to rule them al, One Ring to find them One Ring to bring them all and in the darness bind them. |
